Healthcare deadline near but payment can wait

Monday is the deadline for Americans to sign up for healthcare coverage for individual health plans that take effect Jan. 1 will have until Jan. 10 to make their first payment. But to be safe, healthcare advocates recommend people make their first payment by Dec. 31. America’s Health Insurance Plans, the industry’s largest trade group, say its members will give consumers until Jan. 10 to pay their January premium, provided they choose a plan by the Monday night deadline.

HealthCare.gov to be up and running by Nov. 30

The HealthCare.gov website will be running properly by December, giving uninsured Americans time to sign up for healthcare, a White House adviser said Friday. The main government contractor, QSSI, has been assigned to oversee fixes to the website and will have the site fully functional by Nov. 30, said Jeff Zients, the newly appointed chief White House economic adviser, told reporters on a conference call.
