Warren Backs Decriminalization of Sex Work

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said Wednesday she is “open to decriminalization” of sex work.

In a statement tweeted by The Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel, Warren, one of the top candidates among Democratic presidential primary contenders, said sex workers “like all workers, deserve autonomy, but they are particularly vulnerable to physical and financial abuse and hardship.”

“We need to make sure that we don’t undermine legal protections for the most vulnerable, including the millions of individuals who are victims of human trafficking each year,” her statement read.

Other Democratic primary candidates who have supported decriminalization are Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, The Hill reported.
